Kickboxer: Vengeance trailer released with Jean-Claude Van Damme

Posted on

Jean-Claude Van Damme is stepping back into the ring. But like his Expendables rival Sylvester Stallone and Creed, it’s as a mentor.

The action star appears in the new Kickboxer: Vengeance trailer, a reboot of the 1989 film Kickboxer — but there’s a new Kurt Sloane, Van Damme’s character in the first one.

Akin to the original, Kurt (Alain Moussi) and his brother Eric (Darren Shahlavi) are martial arts pros in the U.S. and seek a larger challenge overseas in Thailand. A dramatic showdown between Eric and Tong Po (Dave Bautista) results in Eric’s death, setting Kurt on a vengeful path. He knocks on the door of Master Durand (Van Damme) to refine his fighting ability and claim his revenge.

Bautista, Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, Cain Velasquez, and Fabrício Werdum are among the professional real-life MMA fighters who appear in the John Stockwell (Blue Crush) film.

See the trailer below. Kickboxer: Vengeance is out Sept. 2 in theaters and on VOD.
