Stephen Colbert mock-drafts top vice-presidential candidates

Posted on

At times, the 2016 presidential election has felt more like a sport or a circus than typical politics. So as part of his lead-up to next week’s Republican National Convention, Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night did a mock draft of potential vice-presidential candidates for both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Usually these drafts are covered by multiple commentators, so Colbert compensated by pretending to be two different people.

Trump’s top three candidates, according to Colbert, are New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and Indiana Governor Mike Pence. Unfortunately, discussing that third one was somewhat difficult for Colbert.

“Sorry, I just fell asleep when Mike Pence’s face appeared on screen,” Colbert said.

Clinton’s top two candidates are Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. Unfortuantely, Kaine hit Colbert with the same narcolepsy problem as Pence.
