Details have emerged about The Realest Real, the new film written and directed by Carrie Brownstein that boasts an impressive cast including former Sonic Youth member Kim Gordon. The short film will debut Sept. 12 and was created in conjunction with the fall-winter campaign of the fashion brand Kenzo, according to Dazed.
The film also features acting from Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World), Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is the New Black), Mahershala Ali (House of Cards), and Laura Harrier (One Life to Live). Its release coincides with New York Fashion Week, which takes place this year from Sept. 7 to 15.
Outside of her standing as a founder of alt-rock icons Sleater-Kinney, Brownstein has had a robust film and TV career. She most notably created and stars in Portlandia with Fred Armisen, but has also appeared in shows like Saturday Night Live, Transparent, The Simpsons, and Archer.
And Kenzo has a history of collaborating with respect filmmakers, from David Lynch to Tangerine director Sean Baker.
