Calvin Harris is willing to call his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift an “amazing lyric writer,” but the niceties end there. After Swift’s camp confirmed the 1989 singer wrote Harris’ single with Rihanna, “This Is What You Came For,” under a pseudonym, the DJ took issue with the news going public and called out Swift for the revelation.
“I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym,” Harris wrote on Twitter, adding he was surprised and upset by Swift’s decision to confirm her previously masked identity as the track’s songwriter. “Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though,” he wrote.
Harris and Swift broke up in June, and the singer has since begun a relationship with actor Tom Hiddleston. “I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do,” Harris wrote, before referencing Swift’s high profile conflict with Katy Perry. “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”
After their split was announced in June, Harris tweeted, “The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect.” That tweet, along with many other social media posts about their relationship, have since been deleted by both Harris and Swift.
Check out his tweets below, which began with praise for Swift’s songwriting process and confirmation that she performed a “little bit” on “This Is What You Came For” as well.
Representatives for Swift were not immediately available for comment.
