It’s a stream come true for fans of Felicity, My So-Called Life, Sports Night, and other long-completed TV programs. ABC has relaunched its streaming service with the addition of full seasons of 38 “throwback” shows, the network announced Wednesday.
The updated service also features seven original short-form digital series, with more to come, and a redesigned app interface for Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
The digital series include comedies like Ty Burrell’s Boondoogle and Iliza Shlesinger’s Forever 31, and lifestyle offerings such as the culinary program Get Cookin’ and the music show On the Record. More than 40 additional ABC series are in development and will roll out monthly.
Additional throwback shows include Schoolhouse Rock, Ugly Betty, 8 Simple Rules, FlashForward, and Ellen.
Sports Night alum Joshua Malina blasted out the news via Twitter on Wednesday, writing, “Starting today you can stream the entire series of #SportsNight on http://abc.com.”
The digital and throwback programs are viewable without signing in with a pay TV service. Along with the revamped Apple app, the content is accessible on ABC.com and via ABC’s other mobile and set-top apps.
“Our team has completely re-imagined the digital viewing experience for ABC fans,” said Karin Gilford, ABC’s senior vice president of digital media, in a statement. “In addition to the current ABC shows that fans know and love, we are introducing new ABCd original digital series that are fun, fresh and perfect for mobile, and we are making full seasons of all-time favorite shows available for binging.”
The redesigned ABC app is available exclusively via the App Store. Watch the video above to see it in action.
