Ariana Grande and Victoria Monét released a new track titled “Better Days” Saturday in response to the recent deaths of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and five Dallas police officers: “Too many precious live were taken from us this week, this month, this year,” Grande wrote on Instagram. “Stay strong and know that better days are coming.”
Monét has two of her own EPs to her name — Nightmares & Lullabies: Acts 1 and 2 — and has written songs with and for artists including Grande, Fifth Harmony, and Janelle Monáe. “Better Days” marks her first duet with Grande.
“I’m heartbroken by all of the recent tragedies [that] came as a result of hatred, racism, and injustice,” she wrote on Instagram. “To all of the lives taken pointlessly, we will not let you be forgotten. You have sparked change in this world with your angel wings. Rest In Peace.”
The track features somber but hopeful lyrics like, “Baby, there’s a war outside our window, but it’s gon’ be all right as long as I got you and me” and “Come together, we deserve it.” Listen below.
