The Revolution are going to reunite at their old stomping grounds. Prince’s most famous backing band announced two September gigs at First Avenue, the Minneapolis club where the group played in the 1980s.
Bassist BrownMark shared the news on Facebook, writing that he hopes the tribute will help heal the loss he feels after Prince’s death in April at the age of 57.
“I need this as much as you. I have no closure, I have no peace and the void echoes loud in an empty space deep within,” he writes. “Playing my bass is the answer and sharing the music with you is what will heal. Minneapolis ‘First Avenue’ is just the beginning. Love & Peace to you.”
BrownMark, Bobby Z., Matt Fink (Dr. Fink), Wendy Melvoin, and Lisa Coleman announced the return of The Revolution soon after Prince’s death. The Minneapolis reunion shows will be held at First Avenue, where the concert scenes in the 1984 musical film Purple Rain were filmed; the titular song was also recorded there during a 1983 concert.
The Revolution’s shows on Sept. 2 and 3 will also feature former members Dez Dickerson and Andre Cymone. Tickets go on sale Friday at 11 a.m. CT.
