One of the most beloved — and terrifying — horror sequels of all time will be creeping back into lounges this fall. Horror imprint Scream Factory announced Wednesday that it is releasing a two-disc collector’s edition Blu-ray set of 1990’s The Exorcist III on Oct. 25. Written and directed by William Peter Blatty — author of the original 1971 novel The Exorcist — the film stars George C. Scott as a cop investigating the murder of a child.
The set’s bonus features will be announced at a later date. But a note on the Scream Factory Facebook page made clear that the collector’s edition would include a director’s cut of the film, which was dramatically altered in post-production at the insistence of its studio, Morgan Creek.
“We know that the biggest question you might have is: Will there be a ‘Director’s Cut’ of the film?” reads the note. “The answer is yes — but with some caveats. We are working on putting together a version that will be close to Blatty’s original script using a mixture of various film and video tape sources that we have been provided with. This is still a work in progress and we will update you with more details at the time we announce the full list of bonus materials.”
You can pre-order The Exorcist III from the Scream Factory website.
