Scholastic’s newest author may be only 9 years old, but she’s already established herself as a nationally known writer thanks to her self-published crime newspaper. Now, Hilde Lysiak, who made headlines when she broke news of a murder in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, will be an author as well. She signed with the children’s publishing house to co-write a series of four books based on her investigative adventures.

Each book in the Hilde Cracks the Case series will focus on Hilde and her older sister Izzy as they investigate a fictionalized news story based on an article Hilde actually published in her monthly paper. The series intends to teach children the basics of journalism.

“It’s amazing that after publishing my own newspaper I now get to work with Scholastic to write books that will be read by kids all around the world. It’s a dream come true,” said Lysiak in a statement. “I want kids who read these books to love reporting like I do.”

The books will be co-authored by Hilde and her father Matthew Lysiak, who is also a journalist. The first of the four is due out in fall of 2017.

Lysiak has been reporting for and publishing her monthly crime newspaper, The Orange Street News, since 2014, when she was 7 years old.
