Frances Conroy will star in Spike’s upcoming scripted series The Mist, EW has confirmed.
Best known for her role as Six Feet Under‘s Ruth Fisher and her multi-faceted turns in American Horror Story, the Emmy-nominated actress will lead The Mist as Nathalie, a modern-day ecological martyr with killer instincts about other humans.
The show is adapted from Stephen King’s 1980 horror novella of the same name, tracing the aftermath of a small town as a mysterious mist settles in and wreaks havoc. The story was previously made into a 2007 film by Frank Darabont and starring Thomas Jane.
Conroy currently appears in Hulu’s Casual. The Mist is set for a 2017 premiere, with production beginning this summer.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to report Conroy’s casting news.
