Stephen Colbert rips Congress for not passing gun control laws

The ‘Late Show’ host finally took the gloves off

Posted on

So far, Stephen Colbert’s calling card as a non-satirical late-night host has been his unflappable cool. On Tuesday night, however, Colbert’s cool finally broke. Like so many others, the Late Show host got furious about gun control in the wake of the Orlando shooting. Specifically, he couldn’t believe that even after Sen. Chris Murphy’s (D-Conn.) filibuster, Congress still didn’t pass a single gun control bill. The host proceeded to unleash his fury in a new segment called “Stephen Colbert Takes the Gloves Off,” in which the host repeatedly excoriated senators with vicious, rap-like insults.

“Hey Senate, my dog accomplished more than you this week when it rolled over and licked its nuts,” Colbert said. “You guys think a terrorist watch list is when you put Homeland in your Netflix queue. You might as well ask the gun lobby to check for a hernia as long as they’ve got your balls in their hands… Senate, you accomplish so little that Kylie Jenner wants to know what the hell you do for a living.”

The bevy of insults seemed to work, for Colbert’s state of mind if nothing else: “I’m still upset, but I feel a little better.”
