The seventh annual VidCon convention kicks off next week, and some of the Internet’s greatest content creators will be in attendance to connect with fans, talk about their projects, and look to the future of the wild world of online video. Whether you’re looking to follow the action or are wondering what VidCon even is, we’ve got answers to all your burning questions ahead!
First of all — what is VidCon?
VidCon is an annual convention celebrating online video content. For three days in June, creators, viewers, and industry professionals converge on the Anaheim Convention Center in California, where fans take part in meet-and-greets, YouTubers speak on panels about the changing landscape of online video, and creatives can attend industry seminars to learn more about navigating the newest, most democratic entertainment platform out there.
When is VidCon 2016?
VidCon number seven will kick off in Anaheim on Thursday, June 23, and last through Saturday, June 25. (Sunday the 26th is “Disney Day,” in which all the guests and attendees get to spend the day at Disneyland, right across the street from the Convention Center.)
Who will be there?
More than 380 YouTubers will be in attendance, including VidCon founders and “VlogBrothers” John and Hank Green, Grace Helbig, Tyler Oakley, Miranda Sings, Gigi Gorgeous, Lilly Singh, and just about every other web celeb you can imagine. Check out the full list of featured creators here.
What’s new this year?
VidCon has expanded beyond the Anaheim Convention Center into the adjacent Marriott hotel to facilitate more panels, screenings, Q&As, and activities for its passholders. They’ve added a new gaming section to the program that will include discussions with top gamers, panels about making gaming video content, and live gameplay sessions with creators. The beauty and lifestyle branch of YouTube is also getting more attention at this year’s convention, with the addition of a new series of panels featuring top beauty and fitness creators. Finally, attendees with an Industry Track badge will have access to 22 seminars taught by industry leaders to help creators and their teams improve their content and maximize engagement and revenue. You can find the complete schedule of events here.
