You don’t need to travel to New York City to experience a live, Tony Award-winning Broadway show: The streaming service BroadwayHD will be broadcasting an upcoming performance of the Roundabout Theatre Company’s hit musical She Loves Me, they announced Wednesday.
The June 30 event will mark the first time in history a Broadway show has streamed live online. She Loves Me is currently on Broadway through July 10 at Studio 54 as part of the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 50th anniversary season. It stars Tony winner Laura Benanti and Tony nominee Zachary Levi as Amalia and Georg, a pair of clerks at a parfumerie constantly butting heads while on the job. In secret, however, they’re both writing to anonymous romantic pen pals who happen to be each other. Jane Krakowski, Gavin Creel, and Byron Jennings also star in the production, which is directed by Scott Ellis and features a book by Joe Masteroff with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and music by Jerry Bock.
The musical was recently nominated in eight categories at Sunday’s 70th Tony Awards ceremony, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Benanti), and Best Actor in a Musical (Levi). It won the award for Best Scenic Design in a Musical. It has also been nominated for nine Drama Desk awards, eight Outer Critic Circle awards, and three Drama League award since its March 17 opening.
“We are proud to be making Broadway history with She Loves Me, the show that launched Roundabout’s Musical Theatre Program in 1993. As a nonprofit institution, this is an incredible opportunity for us to share Scott Ellis’s new Broadway production beyond our subscribers, donors and other ticket buyers for our limited run at Studio 54,” Todd Haimes, the artistic director for Roundabout Theatre Company, said in a press release. “This groundbreaking partnership with BroadwayHD allows us to bring She Loves Me to a large audience throughout the United States, and around the globe.”
Stream She Loves Me live on BroadwayHD.com June 30 at 8 p.m. ET for $9.99.
