Dominic Purcell recently revealed that he was injured on the Morocco set of Prison Break, and the actor — who says he’s physically “fine” now — says there was a short period where he thought he was going to die.
In an interview with Deadline, Purcell explains he was shooting a scene where he ran into a prison and was then hit in the head with an iron bar. “I felt this extraordinary explosion on my head that I’d never experienced,” he said. “I’m just leaning over and the blood is just pouring out like a shower, and my stunt guy came up beside me, and I looked at him and said, ‘Dude, what the f—‘s going on?’ … He said, ‘Your head’s split right open, I can see your skull, your nose is on the other side of your face.'”
“I expected that I was either going to black out or die,” he continues, “because in my brain, when he said my skull was showing, I just assumed that my skull was cracked, and blood was going to go into my brain, and I was going to f—ing die in Morocco.”
He eventually made it to a hospital in Casablanca, where a surgeon put him under anesthetic and straightened his nose. “He said I have extra layers of skin around my skull, which actually prevented the fatal blow,” Purcell said before adding that he’s physically “100 percent” now.
Purcell has also been sharing updates on his recovery on Instagram, where he’s posted videos of how he looked right after the operation and thanked Prison Break costar Wentworth Miller for his support. He’s expecting to return to the Prison Break set Monday.
