High School Musical 4: Ashley Tisdale not returning

She’s bop-bop-bopping away

Like a good jazz square, Ashley Tisdale’s Sharpay Evans is a crowd favorite — but fans shouldn’t expect to see her back in the High School Musical universe anytime soon.

In an interview with New You, Tisdale says that she will not be appearing in the upcoming Disney Channel movie High School Musical 4, a follow-up to the wildly popular, status quo-bucking franchise, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

“Looking back, it was such a perfect thing for its time and was so pure that I just don’t know how you go from there,” Tisdale says. “High School Musical didn’t make us, we made High School Musical because of our friendship, how close we were, and the magic there at the time. Kenny Ortega just made it what it was. Disney is an amazing company so I’m sure they’ll find some way to do it.”

But while the cast may not all be in this together anymore, they’re still throwing their support behind the next installment. In May, Corbin Bleu made a surprise appearance at auditions, giving a pep talk to a crowd of nearly 5,000 hopefuls. They’d better get their heads in the game.
