Once a niche comic book character, Deadpool has rocketed to the front of the pop-culture zeitgeist thanks to his self-titled film, which became the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever earlier this year. New fans interested in learning about the character’s various, pre-Ryan Reynolds interpretations over the years would do well to check out Deadpool: Drawing the Merc with a Mouth.
The new book from Insight Editions, out this October, collects various pieces of Deadpool art from comics over the years, from individual adventures to team-ups with fellow Marvel wiseacres like Spider-Man (a union that, sadly, probably won’t show up on the big-screen anytime soon).
Fans can check out an exclusive preview of the book’s cover below. Illustrated by Reilly Brown, the picture of Deadpool drawing his own pictures of Deadpool indicates that fans can expect plenty of the mutant assassin’s trademark fourth-wall-breaking antics.
Other featured artists include Ed McGuinness, Ron Lim, and Carlo Barberi. Deadpool: Drawing the Merc With a Mouth is available for pre-order on Amazon now, and will be in bookstores Oct. 25.
