Learn from your elders, kids.
That’s a lesson this week’s EW cover star, Nick Jonas, is more than open to, and maybe because he had an especially qualified teacher: Nick Carter.
Jonas, the onetime tween heartthrob turned grown solo star — he returns in the acclaimed MMA drama Kingdom on DirecTV June 1, and will release his next album, Last Year Was Complicated, on June 10 — covered a range of topics in one of his most revealing interviews to date, including his time as a child star on Broadway; his current relationship with fellow Disney alums Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Selena Gomez; and his approach to high-risk acting roles.
But there was one encounter that stood out: the words of wisdom the 23-year-old received from another former boy bander.
“The best advice came really early on, it was actually Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys,” Jonas recalls. “He said, ‘Watch the people you admire most and learn from their mistakes,’ It was like, wow. He’s a really nice guy. But even all his bandmates were like, ‘What did you just say? ‘Whoa, that was really deep.’”
