The vocals of pop music powerhouses are set to collide on The Voice, as judge Christina Aguilera and Ariana Grande will perform a duet on the reality competition show’s season 10 finale Tuesday.
Aguilera and Grande tweeted about the performance Monday evening.
“Excited to share the stage with @ArianaGrande on tomorrow night’s @NBCTheVoice finale,” Aguilera wrote.
Grande — whose impression of Aguilera on The Tonight Show went viral last year — replied, “beyond excited and honored!!!!!!!!!”
The duet seemingly comes as a replacement for a canceled performance that was to feature Aguilera singing alongside a hologram of the late Whitney Houston. After footage of the planned duet — which was initially approved by Houston’s estate — leaked last week, executor Pat Houston pulled the plug, citing the quality of the digital visuals.
“Whitney’s legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection,” Pat said, in part, in a statement to Entertainment Tonight. “After closely viewing the performance, we decided the hologram was not ready to air. We have much respect and appreciation for Christina, and she was absolutely flawless.”
Aguilera, who will not return to The Voice‘s 11 season as a judge, is currently prepping for the release of her next studio album, which will be her first since Lotus dropped in 2012. She’s teased the currently-untitled project on Instagram, though she recently told E! she’d release music as soon as the current season of The Voice ends.
“Right after I leave my coaching duties I will go back into my artistic self and unleash what I’ve been dying to for so long,” she said. “Everything will unravel in its own time, but I’m super excited to get back to what I’m really meant to do.”
Collaborators reportedly include fellow on-again, off-again Voice coach Pharrell Williams, “Beautiful” writer Linda Perry, and production duo Da Internz, who previously revealed the album featured “hood drums” and an “upper echelon” vibe. “You wanna know what Christina’s music sounds like? 14K caviar ratchet, serving with three fingertips,” they told Rap-Up.
Aguilera has performed duets with several other musicians throughout The Voice‘s history. In 2013, she took the stage with Lady Gaga to groove through their single “Do What U Want,” and performed the hit “Say Something” alongside A Great Big World that same year.
Grande’s third album, Dangerous Woman, featuring the top-10 single of the same name, was released Friday. The 22-year old debuted the video (below) for the album’s second single, “Into You,” on Tuesday.
The season 10 finale of The Voice airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
