Dominic Toretto will live forever … or at least for three more movies. What Diesel has called the Fast and Furious franchise’s final trilogy will kick off with Fast 8 in 2017. And now that the film’s in production, the news keeps coming, so we’ve put it all in one place. Here’s everything you need to know about Fast 8:
Fast 8 is set to hit theaters April 14, 2017.
The core gang is back, including Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tyrese Gibson. But they aren’t the only familiar faces.
Thanks to Vin Diesel’s Instagram, we’ve learned that both Nathalie Emmanuel and Elsa Pataky will reprise their roles. For Emmanuel, that means the return of hacker Ramsey, and for Pataky, Elena is back! Jason Statham is also confirmed to be returning.
Kurt Russell is also set to return as Mr. Nobody. Get a glimpse at the cast below:
As for Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs, could he spend the movie behind bars? The actor shared a photo of his character in an orange jumpsuit and han cuffs. (We’re taking bets now on whether he’ll muscle his way out of those cuffs the same way he did that cast.)
First up, some changes behind the camera: Straight Outta Compton filmmaker F. Gary Gray is directing the film, his first in the franchise.
In the cast, Scott Eastwood and Charlize Theron are both joining the fun — though they won’t necessarily be playing characters you’ll love. (Or maybe you will.) Theron’s character, Cipher, is being pitched as the “greatest adversary ever” for Dom and the gang, while Eastwood is set to play the previously mentioned new protégé of Russell’s Mr. Nobody, which seemingly means he’s bad … but maybe less bad than Theron?
And if that’s not enough evil for you, Game of Thrones‘ Kristofer Hivju has also joined the cast as an “evil henchman.”

However, perhaps the most exciting news to come out about the film so far is that Helen Mirren will appear! There’s no word yet on her role, but from what she told EW, it’s probably something fairly small. “I’ve only got one day, and I’ll probably f— it up, oh God,” she told EW, laughing.
Mirren then added, “I wanted to be driving, but unfortunately, I’m not. Maybe that will come in the future, in Fast and Furious 12.” And just in case you were wondering, yes, she does know how to handle a gear shift. “I’m probably one of the few people on the set who know how to drive a gear shift car. I doubt the Rock knows,” she said jokingly. “But I do. I know how to double declutch.”
Diesel later posted the first on-set photo of Helen Mirren to his Instagram:
