The Trainspotting sequel is officially off and running.
A short teaser to was released online Monday morning for the long-awaited sequel to Danny Boyle’s 1996 cult hit, to mark the start of production. The clip doesn’t feature any new footage, but does announce that the original cast members — Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremmer, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle — are all returning for this next outing.
Boyle has previously said the Trainspotting cast would all be back, but this makes things official.

McGregor said in a recent interview that the decision to return for a sequel came down to the quality of the script. “I think, if that had not happened, none of us would be into it,” he told Collider. “I think we’re all sort of somewhat protective of what Trainspotting means to people, and what it means to us. None of us want to make a poor sequel to it. So had we not been presented with the most extraordinary script, which we were, I think we wouldn’t be making the sequel. But because we were, we are.”
The film, using the moniker T2 in the teaser, is slated to arrive in the U.K. this January, according to the video. There’s no word yet on a U.S. release date.
