Purple reigned for Spike Lee at Prince’s memorial on Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
Taking to Instagram to pay tribute before the ceremony, Lee shared an image of parts of his purple ensemble in memory of the music icon.
“Purple Beret And Purple Kobe’s For Prince Memorial Tonight in El LAY,” Lee captioned the pic of purple tennis shoes and the matching cap.
Wednesday’s ceremony was a special service put together to remember Prince – who died at 57 in April – by his ex-wives Manuela Testolini and Mayte Garcia, according to E!. The event is not believed to be an official memorial service for the late legend.
In early May, his family released a statement clarifying that there has not been a service in memoriam of Prince.
“We would like everyone to know that, contrary to previous and current reports, there has been no memorial, funeral or tribute service for Prince that was organized or authorized by the family or Paisley Park representatives,” the statement read.
An autopsy was ordered and completed just one day after Prince died, however a cause of death has not been released.
