Jacob Tremblay is getting a new ma in Julia Roberts.
The Oscar-winning actress and the young star of awards season darling Room have finalized their deals to star in Lionsgate’s adaptation of R.J. Palacio’s children’s book, Wonder, a source tells EW. Stephen Chbosky, the author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and director of its 2012 big-screen adaptation, is attached to direct Wonder from a screenplay by Steve Conrad.
Wonder tells the story of 10-year-old Auggie Pullman (Tremblay), a boy with a facial deformity who enrolls in a private school after years of homeschooling. Roberts is set to play Auggie’s mother. “In a wonder of a debut, Palacio has written a crackling page-turner filled with characters you can’t help but root for,” EW wrote in an A- review of the book.
