American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson‘s breakout star, Sterling K. Brown, is staying in the courtroom for his next role: The actor is set to star in Marshall, an upcoming biopic about Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall, alongside Chadwick Boseman and Josh Gad.
Brown played prosecutor Chris Darden on the critically acclaimed People v. O.J., but this time he’ll be on the other side of the legal process as Joseph Spell, a man accused of the 1940 rape and attempted murder of a Connecticut socialite. Marshall — who would later become the Supreme Court’s first black justice in 1967 — partnered with lawyer Sam Friedman to defend Spell in what would become a contentious case that highlighted racism in the north.
Marshall does not yet have an expected release date but begins production in Buffalo, New York, this month.
