Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is returning to the world of YA supernatural romance with the new film franchise Anna Dressed in Blood starring Maddie Hasson and Cameron Monaghan.
Meyer, who saw wild success as her Twilight series was adapted into five movies, is developing a new film franchise based on Kendare Blaker’s popular two-book series through her production company Fickle Fish Films.
The film centers on Cas (Monaghan), a young man who follows in his father’s footsteps as a killer of the dead. After his father’s death at the hands of a ghost, he sets out on a journey across the country to seek out tales of the dead. This path leads him to Anna (Hasson), a ghost unlike anything that Cas has come across. The two suddenly realize that they might be the only ones that can help each other deal with their complicated past and present.
Both young actors are known primarily for their television work: Monaghan is currently featured on Showtime’s Shameless, while Hasson previously starred on the ABC Family’s Twisted.
“We literally searched the world for over a year to find the perfect actors to bring this genre-spanning story to life,” said Meyer. “Cameron and Maddie, both so talented individually, together have that rare and extraordinary chemistry that lights up the screen.”
Trish Sie (Step Up: All In) is directing the upcoming film from a screenplay written by Allison Wood.
