Ross Lynch is well on his way to becoming the next Zac Efron.
The Teen Beach Movie star has been cast to lead up Offspring Entertainment and Brightlight Pictures’ upcoming comedy, Status Update.
Scott Speer (Step Up Revolution) directs from Jason Filardi’s script. The story details the trials of a teen named Kyle (Lynch), who, after being uprooted by his parents’ separation and unable to fit into his new hometown, stumbles upon a magical app that causes his social media updates to come true. As he becomes a hero at his new high school, Kyle’s newfound power abruptly unravels, sending him crashing back down to earth.
For Lynch, the similarities to Efron go beyond starring in Disney Channel musicals. Filardi wrote 17 Again — Efron’s first movie after the High School Musical series concluded— for Offspring.
