PICK OF THE WEEKEND

Veep

HBO, Sunday, 10 p.m.

Call it Mr. Slattery goes to Washington: As promised, Mad Men vet John Slattery joins the show as a rich and powerful banker named Charlie Baird. We already know from our preview that he and President Meyer will start hooking up — so the only question now is how soon.

RING THE BELL

W. Kamau Bell: Semi-Prominent Negro

Showtime, Friday, 10 p.m.

It might be time for W. Kamau Bell to happen. In addition to hosting his own new CNN series, United Shades of America (which debuted April 24 and airs Sunday nights), the politically-oriented comic shows off his stand-up chops in this Morgan Spurlock-directed special, in which he takes on gentrification, race, and cabbage. Cabbage!

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

HBO, Saturday, 8 p.m.

This year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will induct Cheap Trick, Chicago, Steve Miller, Deep Purple, and N.W.A. That’s right — the Straight Outta Compton rap group is getting honored. In your face, Oscar voters!

A HARDWICK’S NIGHT

Chris Hardwick: Funcomfortable

Comedy Central, Saturday, 10 p.m.

The busy comic gets to do his own comedy for an hour. And stay tuned for the stand-up special’s after-show Talking ‘Wick, hosted by Hardwick himself.

MONSTER MASH

Penny Dreadful

Showtime, Sunday, 10 p.m.

What does the Josh Harnett/Timothy Dalton/Eva Green/Rory Kinnear horror show have in store for its third season? Check out our in-depth interview with showrunner John Logan here to find out.
