It was only a matter of time before the citizens of the Pridelands would be belting out the most iconic tune in the Lion King canon.
On the April 29 episode of Disney Junior’s The Lion Guard — the channel’s continuation of The Lion King saga — the original king himself, Simba (here voiced by Rob Lowe), leads the tribe in a stirring rendition of perhaps the most famous problem-free philosophy this side of the Serengeti, “Hakuna Matata.”
But nothing really Matatters unless Timon and Pumbaa are on hand to sing — and fortunately, both meerkat and warthog are present to usher their song to a new generation. (In fact, original Pumbaa voice actor Ernie Sabella reprises his role in the series.)
It’s a happy celebration after Simba finds himself trapped in a sinkhole with honey badger Bunga (Joshua Rush), wherein they bond over the fact that they both share a major family background: They were both raised by Timon and Pumbaa.
The episode “Bunga and the King” (airing April 29 at 9:30 a.m. on Disney Junior) will mark the first time the tune has been sung on the series — and, perhaps, the first of many times your children will ask you to sing it. No worries!
