When Prince, who died Thursday at age 57, performed at the Super Bowl in 2007, he wasn’t expecting rain — but that didn’t stop him from putting on a typically energetic, captivating show.
In a clip posted by the NFL, Super Bowl halftime show production designer Bruce Rodgers remembers someone breaking the news to Prince about the rain. “Prince was like, ‘Can you make it rain harder?'” Rodgers says.

The musician went on to play a medley of his own “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Baby I’m a Star,” and “Purple Rain” along with Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” Creedance Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary,” Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower,” and Foo Fighters’ “Best of You.” See the performance below.
