Fourth of July Weekend in New Orleans became a lot more fun.
ESSENCE Festival has added Puff Daddy and the Family and Common to the four-day extravaganza, event organizers announced Wednesday. The exact members of the Family are unknown but will be “a conglomerate of past and present Bad Boy Records artists and affiliates.”
Kendrick Lamar, Mariah Carey, Maxwell, Ciara, and others were initially announced as headliners in March. Nephew Tommy (The Steve Harvey Morning Show) returns as the host of the main stage. For the first time, the Superlounges will be specially curated by singer Estelle.
Puff Daddy joined the “surprise record” last fall when he shared the MMM mixtape for his birthday. An A-list of collaborators appeared over the 13 tracks, including Future, Travis Scott, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Pusha T, French Montana, Styles P, The Lox, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil’ Kim, Jadakiss, King Los, and more.
Common won an Oscar in February 2015 with John Legend for “Glory,” their composition for Selma. He dropped his 10th studio album, Nobody’s Smiling, in July 2014.
