Hugh Jackman’s third and final Wolverine movie appears to have found its bad guy. Narcos star Boyd Holbrook is in negotiations to play the lead villain in the yet-to-be-titled superhero tale, a person familiar with the project tells EW.
Holbrook, who portrayed a DEA agent in the Netflix crime series, would face off against Jackman’s clawed antihero as the nefarious head of security for a global organization.
James Mangold is returning to direct the Fox sequel after helming the series’ previous installment, 2013’s The Wolverine, and David James Kelly penned the new script.
Jackman has said the filmmakers are taking the time to make sure the movie delivers. “It matters too much to me,” he told EW in October. “I care too much about the character and the audience, and when you say it’s going to be our last one — I want to leave everything out on the table.”
Holbrook’s other credits include Gone Girl, Jane Got a Gun, and The Free World.
The third Wolverine movie is scheduled to hit theaters March 3.
Deadline first reported the news about Holbrook.
