A neverending Easter egg hunt has played out in Pixar films for years, but chances are you missed the “ultimate” Easter egg: Hank the octopus.
Finding Dory director Andrew Stanton and Modern Family star Ed O’Neill, who voices Hank in the sequel, appeared in a Pixar promo video to reveal all the spots the camouflaging creature has popped up over the years. “Every Pixar fan knows that we love Easter Eggs,” said Stanton in the video, released on April Fools’ Day. “And until now, Hank has been our most closely guarded secret. There are even people internally at Pixar who don’t know about this.”
Stanton claims Hank has been somewhere in the background of films since Toy Story in 1995. (It’s hard to prove, of course, since he blends in so well with his surroundings.) We’ll just have to take Stanton’s word for it. “I’m gonna be more famous at Pixar than that lamp,” exclaimed O’Neill.
Finding Dory hits theaters on June 17.
