You can’t star in a musical biopic and expect Stephen Colbert not to take advantage of that fact during your interview on his show. At least, that’s what Tom Hiddleston learned on Monday, when he stopped by The Late Show to discuss his role as Hank Williams in the new movie I Saw the Light. He and Colbert discussed the dark side of Williams, an iconic country musician who died at the young age of 29, but before their interview concluded, the host slyly asked if Hiddleston would be willing to sing with him. Colbert even played the spoons to tease Hiddleston (who had revealed his talent with the silverware earlier in the show), but the actor demurred at first.
“I feel that if you want to see me sing, you should go and see the film,” Hiddleston said.
This didn’t stop Colbert, who laughed it off and launched into Williams’ “I Saw the Light.” This finally got Hiddleston to join in. The two sang and clapped along to Williams’ joyful spiritual, and even got the audience to sing along.
