Every Crypt needs its Keeper, and the upcoming takes on the beloved series Tales from the Crypt is no different.
Speaking with /Film at WonderCon, M. Night Shyamalan revealed that TNT’s revival of the HBO show (and original 1950s EC Comics series) will feature the franchise’s most recognizable character, the Crypt Keeper. The original HBO series, which ran from 1989 to 1996, featured a John Kassir-voiced Crypt Keeper puppet, which was operated by Van Snowden.
“There will [be a Crypt Keeper],” Shyamalan teased while offering no other information about the role the character would play or what form it might take.
Shyamalan did reveal that the format of the TNT series will be “more individual Black Mirror kind of stuff” rather than the season-long anthology set-up of shows like American Horror Story. (Shyamalan did note his mind has changed about this in the past, however.)
No other details were shared about the series, but, when the revival was originally announced in January, TNT’s Kevin Reilly did say that it would “utilize the underlying comics,” and called the new Tales “an umbrella for what will hopefully be many shows.”
