Ashton Kutcher and Jimmy Kimmel compare Uber ratings

Given the amount of driving required to live in Los Angeles, it should come as no surprise that Uber has become a way of life. And that applies to celebrities, too. When Ashton Kutcher stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday to discuss his Netflix show em>The Ranch the host decided that they should compare their Uber ratings.

Kutcher had a score of 4.79, which would’ve been pretty good… if Kimmel didn’t have a 4.8. Kutcher chalked up his failure to one very specific incident with his father-in-law.

“I had a night with Mila’s dad where we were drinking vodka, and I was not driving home, and the Uber was of great assistance,” Kutcher recalled. “I don’t know how I got in the house. I don’t know how I got in the car, but apparently I remembered to press the Uber button.”

Kimmel blamed his own slightly less-than-perfect rating on an even weirder incident in which he accidentally took someone else’s Uber to their destination. This brought up a good question from Kimmel: Should you tip your Uber driver in cash, in addition the app’s payment system? Kutcher, who has an investment stake in Uber, explained the company’s thinking.

“Nobody’s saying you can’t give someone a tip. But the idea of the service is you get into a car, you take the ride, you get out of the car, and it’s done,” Kutcher said. “It’s not that weird sort of exchange moment. The other thing is for driver safety. Sometimes having cash on them isn’t the safest thing. I’m not saying it’s wholly unsafe, but it is a designed experience to not have to tip.”

“I’m still gonna tip,” Kimmel determined. “Maybe that’s why my rating’s higher than yours.”
