Voltron is assembling into action once again, and the latest look at the legendary defender offers a first glimpse and new intel about the world-saving robot lions.
USA Today has unveiled a first look at Voltron: Legendary Defender, the recently announced Dreamworks Animation series coming to Netflix later this year with 13 22-minute episodes. (Footage is set to be shown at WonderCon this weekend.)
The first look reveals the design for Voltron in its latest incarnation, comprised of five lion robots that create one powerful fighting machine. It follows in the footsteps of the first iteration introduced in the 1980s that was originally based on Japanese anime.
The new Netflix series will see five Earth boys (Hunk, Keith, Lance, Pidge, and Shiro) become the pilots behind Voltron as they take on an otherworldly threat headed by King Zarkon.
Executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos told USA Today that the show, as opposed to the original series, is set to give the main characters “a real purpose for being on this mission and getting involved with Voltron in the first place.”
