Ever since Daniel Craig made it painfully clear that he wanted to end his James Bond tenure after Spectre, the rumor mill has been swirling with ideas about his possible successor. As Tom Hiddleston explained to Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday, “‘Who’s gonna be James Bond?’ is one of the nation’s favorite pub conversations, up there with, ‘Who’s gonna win X Factor?’ and, ‘Is Britain gonna leave the E.U.?’ ” Thanks to his role as a spy on the BBC miniseries The Night Manager, Hiddleston himself has begun to emerge as a possible contender for Bond.
“I play a British spy in The Night Manager, so people I think have made the link,” Hiddleston said. “I mean, as somebody who grew up with Sean Connery and Roger Moore, when you mention it there’s a part of me that goes, ‘Really? Are you kidding?'”

Kimmel wanted to know if the British people would ever accept an American actor as James Bond. After all, Kimmel pointed out that Superman is now played by a British guy, so it would only be fair. But the host quickly realized his mistake.
“That’s the most revolting thing I could say, right?” Kimmel asked.
“Yeah,” Hiddleston agreed.
