Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are teaming to star in a Netflix romantic comedy series.
The two household-name actors will topline Santa Clarita Diet, about husband-and-wife realtors leading “vaguely discontented lives” in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Barrymore’s character goes through a dramatic change “sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction — but in a good way.”
For Barrymore, this marks the first TV series regular role for the Scream and Boys on the Side actress since 1992 (which was a short-lived project called 2000 Malibu Road).

And for Olyphant, the casting answers the question of what the Emmy-nominated star of FX’s Justified was going to choose as a follow-up series (aside from a recent guest arc on Fox’s The Grinder).
Said writer-producer Victor Fresco (Better Off Ted): “The genius of casting Timothy and Drew, combined with my comedic … oh wait, that’s Cindy’s quote. I agree with what Cindy is about to say.”
Said Cindy Holland, Netflix vice president of original content: “The genius casting of Timothy and Drew combined with Victor’s unique comedic sensibility will delight, and definitely surprise, our members around the world.”
Santa Clarita Diet will launch in 2017.
