Tina Fey's 'Bossypants: Kindle Highlights

Posted on

What better way to celebrate Women’s History Month than to revisit Tina Fey’s brilliant Bossypants, which paved the way for hilarious and inspiring books by peers like Mindy Kaling and Amy Poheler? Since its release in 2011, Bossypants continues to be one of our favorite feminist books, brimming with wonderful advice about following your dreams — and not being afraid to work insanely hard to get there.

Below, EW presents the top Kindle highlights from Bossypants so you can bask in Fey’s timeless wisdom once again:

  • “In most cases being a good boss means hiring talented people and then getting out of their way.”
  • “(By the way, when Oprah Winfrey is suggesting you may have overextended yourself, you need to examine your f—ing life.)”
  • “(My ability to turn good news into anxiety is rivaled only by my ability to turn anxiety into chin acne.)”
  • “You could put a blond wig on a hot-water heater and some dude would try to f— it.”
  • “Sometimes if you have a difficult decision to make, just stall until the answer presents itself.”
  • “But there is not one management course in the world where they recommend Self-Righteousness as a tool.”
  • “So my unsolicited advice to women in the workplace is this. When faced with sexism or ageism or lookism or even really aggressive Buddhism, ask yourself the following question: “Is this person in between me and what I want to do?” If the answer is no, ign nore it and move on. Your energy is better used doing your work and outpacing people that way. Then, when you’re in charge, don’t hire the people who were jerky to you.”
  • “How can I give her what Don Fey gave me? The gift of anxiety. The fear of getting in trouble. The knowledge that while you are loved, you are not above the law. The Worldwide Parental Anxiety System is failing if this many of us have made sex tapes.”
  • “I think someone should design exercise machines that reward people with sex at the end of their workouts, because people will perform superhuman feats for even the faint hope of that.”
  • “I have a uniquely German capacity to vacillate between sentimentality and coldness.”
