Marvel’s heroes will wage a Civil War on screen this spring, but there’s another war brewing among the superheroes of Marvel Comics.
With the conclusion of Secret Wars comes a new universe-altering event that threatens to divide the our heroes: Civil War II, debuting this June from Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez. The event is a follow-up to the 2007 Civil War event by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven that the upcoming Captain America film is based on.
Details about the event itself are being kept under wraps, but according to the synopsis, “a mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy. This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.”
Marvel has been steadily rolling out teasers by acclaimed artist Phil Noto, featuring the likes of Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Blank Panther, Hawkeye, and Medusa. The latest superhero to join up? None other than the merc with the mouth.
But as for what side Deadpool will take, well, that’s not so clear. While some teasers have been rather straightforward (Ms. Marvel ripping a photo of her idol), Deadpool’s teaser shows the cheeky superhero wearing the uniforms of the standard-bearers for both sides of the conflict — Captain Marvel and Iron Man.
Protect the future? Change the future? Maybe Deadpool is the answer to it all. Check out the exclusive reveal below.
