Game of Silence pushes one big idea: People can never forget where they’re from.

EW has the exclusive first trailer for the NBC crime drama, written by Friday Night Lights and Parenthood scribe David Hudgins. The adaptation of the Turkish series of the same name (translated from Suskunlar) centers on five childhood friends who were all involved in a lethal car crash and subsequent nine-month jail sentence when they were teens.

Twenty-five years later, Jackson (David Lyons) grows up to be a successful lawyer. One day, he’s drawn back to his old life by Gil (Michael Raymond James) and Shawn (Larenz Tate) to help out their friend Boots (Derek Phillips), who’s in trouble with the law. They show up to disrupt Jackson’s new life and threaten to unveil their buried past.
