From the very first episode of Outlander, viewers knew they were in for a sexy ride. And season 1 certainly delivered with some of the steamiest scenes on television between stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. (Remember their wedding night?)
However, the show has been careful to stay away from gratuitous sex, only including bedroom — and sometimes outdoors — scenes when it propelled the story forward.
“Last season you very much saw Claire and Jamie fall in love, and that was the story that we were telling, so you saw a lot of their first forays into that part of their relationship,” Balfe says in an interview for this week’s Entertainment Weekly cover story.
But will season 2 keep the heat?
Now that Claire and Jamie are married, their story will be told in a different way, Balfe says. Heughan also notes that though it’ll take some time for them to get back to where they were — before Black Jack Randall raped Jamie — they’ve developed as a couple.
“It’s a grown-up relationship,” Heughan says.
But if the trailer is any indication, viewers won’t have to worry too much about the physical side of their relationship fizzling out.
