Covering the Motown classic “Dancing in the Street” with Mick Jagger in 1985, David Bowie sang, “All we need is music, sweet music.”
In a fitting ode to the rock legend the day after he died from cancer, fans flocked to Bowie’s hometown of Brixton, poured into the streets, and provided some sweet music of their own. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, a jubilant crowd broke into a spontaneous sing-along of Bowie hits including “Starman,” “Space Oddity,” “Rebel Rebel,” and “Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide.”
The fans had gathered around a local mural depicting Bowie’s Aladdin Sane alter ego, where flowers, candles, letters, and other tributes were laid.
