Funny or Die: Jennifer Lawrence video mocks age disparity

Posted on

Jennifer Lawrence has launched to fame in recent years on the commercial success of the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise and the critical success of David O. Russell movies like Silver Linings Playbook. The main difference between these types of films, other than genre, is the age of the characters Lawrence plays. Katniss Everdeen is a young adult, but the women of Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy are all more established. (In Joy and American Hustle, Lawrence plays versions of real-life women who were older than her 25 years.)

A new Funny or Die video takes aim at this age disparity between Lawrence and her characters in Russell films, and projects her next such character: “an 89-year-old woman who looks like she’s 16.” Fantasy casting has Donald Sutherland as her boyfriend and Robert DeNiro as her great-grandson. It’s fake, except Lawrence and Russell may already be planning something similar.

“David is making something right now and the plan, so far, is for me to play Bob De Niro’s mother,” Lawrence said in December. “I think that the more people give him crap about me being too young for his parts, he’s like, ‘Oh yeah, watch this’ — so we’ll see.”
