With Rick and Morty’s ability to travel to nearly any dimension around, it only makes sense that eventually they would end up in the universe of one of the biggest gaming franchises around — and make it a playable adventure, too.
A new Rick and Morty game made in the style of Pokémon, Pocket Mortys, will be hitting iOS and Android devices on Jan. 14. Series creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon made the game’s announcement via Twitter, along with the official Adult Swim Games Twitter account. Each showed off a GIF of the game’s Pokémon-esque world and battle system.
Senior producer at Adult Swim Games Chris Johnston also tweeted some details about the game, revealing that it would be free and promised it is a “real game,” suggesting it might be more fleshed out than previous Rick and Morty games like one based on the balloon popping game Jerry plays on the show. Additionally, Adult Swim Game’s marketing manager Sean Baptiste tweeted about the game, indicating Dan Harmon provided voice work for the game.
Based on the gameplay snippets glimpsed in the previews, the GIFs indicate the Council of Ricks first seen in “Close Rick-counters of the Rick Mind” may be involved.
