Welcome to Mexifornia, a fictional state in the U.S. where white Americans and Mexican immigrants live together in perfect harmony — well, kind of: In an exclusive sneak peek of Fox’s Bordertown, creator Mark Hentemenn introduces the two very different families at the heart of the animated comedy and the conflicts between them.
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane serves as executive producer on the show, which stars Nicholas Gonzalez as Ernesto, an optimistic Mexican family man, and Hank Azaria as Bud, a pessimistic border agent. Alex Borstein, Missi Pyle, and Judah Friedlander also star.

The sneak peek features Ernesto’s kids treating Bud like a piñata, Bud complaining about how Ernesto’s house is nicer than his, and Bud giving his daughter permission to marry Ernesto’s son — and immediately realizing that means he’ll one day be playing grandpa to half-Mexican grandchildren, a prospect he seems shocked by.
“Given the subject matter, I think it should not be politically correct,” Hentemenn says in the clip. “I don’t think we’re going out of our way to be edgy or offensive. We want this to be fun and not take itself too seriously.”
