A choir of doctors and nurses beat Justin Bieber for the No. 1 spot on the U.K.’s charts this week after the singer urged his fans to support the group and its charity single.

“I’m hearing this U.K. Christmas race is close…but the [NHS Choir] single is for charity,” Bieber had tweeted on Wednesday. “So for [one] week it’s ok not to be #1. Let’s do the right thing & help them win. [NHS Choir,] good luck…This is what it’s all about. Merry Christmas.”

On Friday, the Lewishham and Greenwich NHS Choir’s “A Bridge Over You” officially won the Christmas Day top spot with 127,000 sales and downloads, the Guardian reports, nearly 31,000 more than Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”

Bieber congratulated the group when he heard the news. “That is what Christmas is all about. @Choir_NHS congrats!! Very cool,” he tweeted on Friday.

“A Bridge Over You” had been trailing behind earlier in the week, but surged ahead after Bieber encouraged his fans to support the group. Prodeeds from the song go to health charities including Carers UK and Mind, according to the Guardian.

“Thank you SO very much to all our followers and supporters. We still can’t quite believe this has happened!” the NHS choir tweeted on Friday. “Happy Christmas.”
