There was a time in the 1980s when Tiffany was the “It Girl.” At just 16 years old, she scored back-to-back No. 1 hits: “I Think We’re Alone Now” and “Could’ve Been.”
The era of big hair and teen pop anthems is gone, and Tiffany’s life has moved on. Her son, Elijah, has just graduated from college. She owns Tiffany’s Boutique in Nashville.
But she’s still making music.
“I have a new album coming out,” she tells PEOPLE. “It’s called A Million Miles, and it’s available for preorder now.”
“I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and I know I’ve done a million miles worth of travel,” she says with a laugh. “I’m a road dog! It also feels like I’ve been on a life journey. This album is very reflective on my life. It’s a piece of work that is more of my heartfelt stories. It’s very personal.”
Tiffany has quite a story to tell. A multiplatinum selling artist in her mid-teens, she had a protracted court fight with her mother that led to her becoming an emancipated minor. For 30 years, her career — and life — has had its ups and downs.
“I don’t live with regrets,” she says. “Everything in my life has led me to where I am. And I like being where I am. And I’m not afraid to share my journey. If you want to know something about me, just ask! I’m pretty blunt.”
So what’s the life lesson that Tiffany has learned in her 44 years? “Life is about changing,” she says. “It’s hard for me to write songs about how the sun is shining and everything is great. Although I’ve definitely had days like that, there has always been something a little bittersweet to them. Even when I was living my dreams at 16, there were custody battles and family dramas. I think that’s life. There’s a little bit of bittersweet, and that’s okay.”
One thing that’s giving her mixed emotions: Elijah’s college graduation. “Although I’m so excited for his life to start and all the different things that he wants to accomplish,” she says, “then I remember the first day that I checked him into school.”
“But you know, I’m at the same point,” she says. “I’m bittersweet at the things that I’m putting to bed, but then I’m so excited about the things that are yet to come.
A Million MIles will be released in the spring, but it can be preordered — along with a lot of behind-the-scenes merchandise — at her PledgeMusic site.
