Holiday prog-rock-opera outfit the Wizards of Winter, out of the tri-state area, got their start in 2009 as a tribute act to that other prog-rock-opera outfit that dominates the holiday season: Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They wanted to follow in the tradition of philanthropic holiday super groups and raise money for their local charities. Eventually, they became so much more—writing their own original tunes, releasing an album, touring with TSO extensively, and then, eventually joining forces with the Christmas monolith as two members of TSO joined the Wizards.
Today, founder Scott Kelly is sharing the group’s favorite holiday tunes with EW. (And yes, both they and their inspiration are on there!)
