The long-awaited arrival of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a pop-cultural Death Star, dwarfing all the movies in its orbit, but it’s worth noting that two potential blockbusters just shuffled their dates a bit. EW has confirmed that Lionsgate pushed back the 2017 releases for both Power Rangers and The Divergent Series: Ascendant.
Power Rangers had been slotted for release on Jan. 13, 2017 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend) but has now moved back to March 24, which puts it closer to spring-break time. That date was originally the target date for the final Divergent movie, which has now shifted to June 9, where it can presumably compete for summer blockbuster dollars.
The third Divergent film, Allegiant, opens on March 18. The first two films in the series grossed $150.9 million and $130.2 million, respectively. Both of those films opened in late March.
