Katherine Waterston is the newest crew member of the colony ship Covenant.
The up-and-coming actress of Inherent Vice and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has landed a leading role in Alien: Covenant, the next installment in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi franchise, EW has confirmed.
Waterston joins Michael Fassbender in the film, which is both a sequel to Prometheus and a prequel to the Alien movies. Covenant will tell the story of the titular vessel bound for a remote planet thought to be an uncharted paradise — but ultimately revealed as a dangerous world whose only inhabitant is the android David (Fassbender), survivor of the ill-fated Prometheus expedition.
Waterston, the daughter of actor Sam Waterston, made her feature debut in Michael Clayton, and her other credits include Steve Jobs, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
Alien: Covenant is currently set for an Oct. 6, 2017 release.
Deadline first reported Waterston’s casting.
